Philip Herbert Eliot was Bishop of Buckingham from 1921 to 1944. Born on 20 September 1862〔()〕 into an eminent ecclesiastical family, his father was the Very Rev. Philip Eliot, KCVO sometime Dean of Windsor. He was educated at Marlborough College and Oriel College, Oxford〔The Times, Monday, Jun 29, 1885; pg. 8; Issue 31485; col C ''University Intelligence. Oxford, June 27''〕 and ordained by the Bishop of Winchester in 1886.〔The Times, Thursday, Jun 24, 1886; pg. 12; Issue 31794; col C ''Ordinations''〕 After a curacy at Portsea, Portsmouth and spells as the incumbent at Winslow and Upton-cum-Chalvey he was appointed Rural Dean of Burnham before his ascension to the Episcopate. Described in hisTimes obituary as A man of natural ability and sound judgement, strictly impartial in his decisions〔The Times, Tuesday, Apr 02, 1946; pg. 6; Issue 50416; col E ''Right Rev. P. H. Eliot''〕 Eliot died on 1 April 1946. ==Family== He married Ethel Myra Marshall in 1900 at Eton, and had one son, Philip Stirling Eliot (1901–1982).
